Adventures in The South

I got to visit my beautiful Grandmother!

Flick's fried green tomatoes in Potts Camp, Mississippi. The best I have ever had!

Kate Medley, Justin McGuirk, Callie, and me on a hillside.

Kate drinking hot holiday punch with fruit bobbing in it at a fabulous Oaxacan restaurant!

A riveting game of Apples to Apples.

Dutch Blitz serenade.

My "office" in North Carolina. This is Old Bald, the first mountain I ever climbed, the first mountain I ever loved. I am in these mountains for about a week reading and writing in preparation for my first residency at my new MFA program.

Rosie's Cafe, Cashiers, NC. Rose does not allow cursing.

Nor does Rose like coming out from behind her counter, hence the array of unrefrigerated condiments set out so customers can help themselves.

Whitewater Falls.

Holidays in Memphis

The mammal in the foreground is post-fudge "Lucy the Dog." She barks, pants, and more importantly, she licks people's faces. In this photo, she has just licked my Mom's face (note the amount of drool on Lucy's chin) and was making a swift lunge for my face--luckily, right before she flicked her tongue at me, a wayward starling(?) flew into the living room. Saved.

Emmaline in the Peabody.

Leigh and Leah on Beale street.

Of all the shiny shiny presents 3-year-old Emmaline received, it was the Chapstik that she couldn't leave alone!

My Favorite Callie Shell Photo

Two staffers had just passed this site and done two pull-ups. Not to be outdone, Obama did three with ease, dropped and walked out to make a speech. Missoula, Mont., 4/5/2008.

Pie!

On our way home from Glacier we found a fruit stand where they were selling 20# of peaches for $18, so Brian made some pies.

Innards.

Brian's pie crust secret is to keep all ingredients very very cold.

Voila!

ps- there was enough dough left over to make an Elk Pot Pie (elk courtesy of Yve) w/ veggies from the Farmer's Market. MMMmmmmmm!!!!!

Bozeman / Butte

The Mallard Pinata that Chelle made.

Wise River Merc made enough cash on the street Friday night to buy breakfast Saturday morning.

David Nolt and Jody take in the Bozeman Bluegrass Festival.

Pickin' Pete advising the Roadshow to hush.

Brian and I hit the Berkeley Pit on the way home.

In the tunnel to the observation deck.

My favorite thing about our visit to the Pit was listening to some old folks correct the interpretive signs.

Mile high, mile deep.
